I HAVE NO MEDICLAIM POLICY FOR MYSELF OR MY FAMILY BUT IN FY 2017-18, I INCURRED 27000 ON THE MEDICAL TREATMENT OF MY MOTHER ( 82 YEARS ) . CAN I CLAIM THIS AMOUNT AS DEDUCTION U/S 80D IN MY INCOME TAX RETURN. ( MY MOTHER IS NOT AN INCOME TAX ASSESSEE )

Yes, where such expenses is towards medical expenditure of very senior citizen not covered by health insurance, deduction is allowed up to a limit of Rs 30,000.

Thank you sir for your reply. But there is a confusion whether the super senior citizen i.e. my mother can claim such deduction in her own return OR can I also claim it in my return for medical expenses incurred on her who is dependent on me ?? Please clarify
