22 May 2014 Steps to become CWA

Cost and works accountant (CWA) is a descendant of The Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India (ICWAI).ICWA as a course is conducted in 3 different stages. ICWA involves – Foundation, Intermediate and Final course. The minimum age for applying for the ICWA course is 17 years. You can apply for the foundation course after completing your 12th class in any subject area. Final year 12th class students can also apply for the ICWA course. In case of graduates they can apply for the Intermediate course. The application for the Intermediate course can be done directly without applying for the foundation course. The final course of ICWA can be done after getting through the Intermediate level.

To complete the course ,you should complete three stages of the entire course:

1.Foundation Course
2.Intermediate Course
3.Final Course

1.Foundation Course :

Eligibility for Admission:
a) A candidate should have passed Class 10 or equivalent from a recognized Board or Institution.
(b) Passed Senior Secondary Examination under 10+2 scheme of a recognized Board or an Examination recognized by the Central Government as equivalent thereto or has passed National Diploma in Commerce Examination held by the All India Council for Technical Education or any State Board of Technical Education under the authority of the said All India Council, or the Diploma in Rural Service Examination conducted by the National Council of Higher Education.

When to Apply:

(Last Date of Registration for December Term is 31st May)
(Last Date of Registration for June Term is 30th November)

2.Intermediate Course :

Eligibility for Admission:
(a) Passed Senior Secondary School Examination (10+2)and Foundation Course of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India/ Graduation in any discipline other than Fine Arts/ Foundation (Entry Level) Part I Examination of CAT of the Institute/ Foundation (Entry Level) Part I Examination and Competency Level Part II Examination of CAT of the Institute
(b) Passed Foundation of ICSI/Intermediate of ICAI by what ever name called along with 10+2.
(c)List of other qualifying examination are given vides Annexure VI of prospectus.

After passing icwa intermediate every student having registered under Revised Syllabus 2008/Syllabus 2012, shall be required to undergo practical training for a period of 3 years on whole time basis to the satisfaction of council in any one or more of the organization specified in Appendix A, and in areas as specified in Appendix B for the recognition for training.

3.Final Course :

Eligibility for Admission:

Students for being eligible to make an application to appear in the final examination must

complete at least 6 months of Practical Training in any one or more of the organization specified in Appendix A, and in areas as specified in Appendix B;
(Or)
must have an experience of at least 6 months in any one or more of the organization specified in Appendix A, and in areas as specified in Appendix B ,
(Or)
enroll for the I- CMA Training Module as indicated in Appendix C
