If he joins another CA firm as a partner, there is no problem, it will continue as it is.
But if he join another firm, which is not a CA firm. He is liable to surrender the COP. Then close the CA firm.
In case he joined as an employee in a CA firm, he can continue holding the COP. But he should intimate the Institute. ALso he can not do 'attest' functions as he will be permitted to hold only Part Time COP.

Obviously Yes. Institute permits only paid assistants at CA firms to hold COP. Not others. Naturally, he has to surrender his COP and close down his CA firm.
