20 July 2024 Yes, students who were eligible for the Direct Entry Scheme but chose to register under the CPT route for IPCC (Intermediate) can still opt to convert to Direct Entry IPCC and commence their articleship. Here’s how the process generally works:

1. **Eligibility for Direct Entry IPCC:**
- Students eligible for Direct Entry IPCC typically include those who have completed their graduation or have passed the Intermediate level of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) examination.

2. **Conversion Process:**
- Since the student passed the CPT (Common Proficiency Test) and then registered under IPCC, they have followed the traditional route. However, they can convert to Direct Entry IPCC if they meet the eligibility criteria (such as having completed graduation or having passed the ICSI Intermediate examination).

3. **Procedure:**
- Contact the regional office of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) or check their website for the specific procedure for conversion to Direct Entry IPCC.
- Typically, this involves submitting an application along with necessary documents (such as proof of eligibility, previous examination mark sheets, registration details, etc.).

4. **Starting Articleship:**
- Once the conversion to Direct Entry IPCC is approved by ICAI, the student can commence their articleship under a practicing chartered accountant or a firm registered with ICAI.

5. **Current Status and Reappearance:**
- If the student failed Group I exams in May 2013 and did not appear in November 2013, they may need to re-register for IPCC (if their registration has lapsed) or reappear for the exams under Direct Entry IPCC after conversion.

6. **Urgency and Action:**
- It’s advisable to act promptly and directly contact ICAI for guidance on the specific steps required in their case. They may also need to fulfill any additional requirements or conditions set by ICAI at the time of conversion.

7. **Documentation:**
- Ensure all documentation is complete and accurate to facilitate a smooth conversion process.

In summary, students eligible for Direct Entry IPCC can convert from the traditional route (such as through CPT and IPCC) to Direct Entry and start their articleship, provided they meet the eligibility criteria and follow the necessary procedures set by ICAI. For urgent matters like this, direct consultation with ICAI or a qualified chartered accountant can provide precise guidance tailored to individual circumstances.
