05 November 2011 Dematerialisation is a process in which you can convert physical share certificates into electronic shares.Shares should have been transferred in your name / joint names before sending it for dematerialisation.

for more info. link is:

http://www.karvy.com/dp/faqs/dematerialisation.htm

05 November 2011 1. open a demat account in any NSDL/CDSL participent, in name and style as mentioned on the face of physical shares.

2. handover the physical share certificates to depositary with a demat request form, duly signed and filled

3. demat participent will send the same to registrar and they will cancell the physical shares and allot the same in your demat account.

4. regarding pledge, you have to make discussion with demat depository/ bank.
