28 November 2011 Did you have winzip software in your system

20 July 2024 It seems like you're having trouble opening a zip file, possibly containing a Consolidated Statement that you need for rectifying TDS returns. The error message "unknown compression method" suggests that there might be an issue with how the file was compressed or encrypted.

Here are some steps you can take to resolve the issue and open the zip file:

1. **Use a Different Unzipping Tool:**
Sometimes, the default unzip tool on your computer might not handle certain types of zip files well. Try using a different unzip tool. Here are some popular options:
- **WinRAR:** This is a widely used tool for handling various types of compressed files including zip files. You can download it from [WinRAR's official website](https://www.rarlab.com/download.htm).
- **7-Zip:** Another free tool that supports a wide range of compression formats. It can be downloaded from [7-Zip's official website](https://www.7-zip.org/).

2. **Verify the Password:**
Ensure that you are using the correct password. If you have entered the provisional receipt number as the password and it's not working, double-check for any typos or additional characters that might have been included.

3. **Contact the Source:**
If the file was downloaded from a specific source (such as a government website or a tax authority), there might be specific instructions or support available for opening the file. Consider reaching out to the source for assistance.

4. **Check for Corruptions:**
Sometimes files can get corrupted during the download process. Try re-downloading the zip file and then attempt to open it again using one of the recommended unzip tools.

5. **Consult IT Support:**
If you are in a corporate environment or have access to IT support, they may have additional tools or expertise to help with opening compressed files.

6. **Alternative Formats:**
In some cases, files might be provided in formats other than zip. Check if there are alternative download options or formats available on the source website.

By following these steps, you should be able to open the zip file containing the Consolidated Statement needed for rectifying the TDS return. If you continue to experience issues, it may be beneficial to contact the support services associated with the file source for further assistance.
