Clarifications on revised filing of it returns

This query is : Resolved

26 July 2012 Question: Can I file revised returns for the past years where I had either paid the tax or obtained the refund?
Background: I had been an employee till March 2008 and from FY2008 (AY2009) had become a professional. I had filed all my IT returns electronically since then and had either paid the tax or claimed the refund and all of them had been settled (no outstanding). However, when filing earlier IT returns, I had NOT taken into account business-related expenses (car and computer depreciation, petrol, maintenance, insurance etc.,) and some allowable deductions. I want to factor them now (In the old returns) and derive the tax benefits (less tax or more refunds!) !!
This forum has been extremely invaluable for me and I appreciate all the help from the experts.
