Clarification regarding service tax

hello all :) i want to ask that if an institute purchases a software do it needs to pay service tax on the amount paid for the software so purchased or is it covered under negative list?

If you have purchase the software then only sale tax will be applicable. Service tax and sales tax both will not be applicable in same activity.
