03 May 2009 it is used to identify any party or location which can be addressed, such as:

Legal entities: Whole companies, subsidiaries or divisions such as a supplier, customer, bank, forwarder etc.;
Physical entities: A particular room in a building, a warehouse or warehouse gate, delivery point;
Functional entities: A specific department within a legal entity (e.g. accounting)
GLNs are allocated by EAN India, as a seperate service

The use of EAN location number provides companies with a method of identifying locations within and outside their company that are:

Unique: With a simple structure, facilitating secure processing and transmission of data;
Multi-sectoral: The non-significant characteristic of the EAN numbers allows any location to be identified and consequently any business regardless of its activity;
International: EAN location numbers are unique worldwide. Moreover, the international network of EAN Numbering Organizations, covering more than 80 countries, provides support in the local language.
Structure of EAN location numbers

8 9 0 X X X X X X X X C

First three digits are country code, next nine digits are location numbers allocated by EAN India and the last digit is the check digit.

03 May 2009 Agree with such good explanation...
