Cenvat credit based on debit note

This query is : Resolved

05 October 2011 Is it possible to claim CENVAT credit based on a debit note? Rule 4A says that bill \ invoice \ challan is a valid format for claiming input credit.

My question being when the debit note contains all the details mentioned in the rule 4A, can CENVAT credit be claimed?

Merely because of the name, will i be denied the credit?

08 October 2011 debit note is accounting form of "supplimentary invoice" ask the debit note issuer to mention on face of debit note as

" TO BE TREATED AS SUPPLIMENTARY INVOICE"

it must carry a running sl no, date and mention of master invoice details.
