CA SCHEME

This query is : Resolved

10 April 2021 Greetings Experts!

Well, this is a stupid question. But I till the date did not understand the old/new scheme of ICAI.

Can anyone guide me through this confusion? Please.

Thanks.

06 July 2024 Sure, I can help clarify the confusion between the old and new schemes of ICAI (Institute of Chartered Accountants of India).

**Old Scheme vs. New Scheme in ICAI:**

1. **Old Scheme (Before 2016)**:
- Under the old scheme, candidates had to clear the CA IPCC (Integrated Professional Competence Course) and then undergo articleship for 3 years.
- After completion of articleship and passing both groups of IPCC, candidates could appear for the CA Final exams.

2. **New Scheme (From 2016 onwards)**:
- The new scheme has streamlined the process into three levels: Foundation, Intermediate, and Final.
- **Foundation Level**: Entry-level exam after 12th standard, replacing CPT (Common Proficiency Test).
- **Intermediate Level**: After clearing Foundation or for graduates/postgraduates, this level comprises two groups.
- **Final Level**: After clearing Intermediate and completing articleship, candidates take the CA Final exams.

**Key Differences and Changes**:
- **Foundation**: Introduced to streamline the entry process directly after 12th standard.
- **Intermediate**: Combines aspects of IPCC and articleship under one umbrella, with the option for direct entry for graduates.
- **Final**: Requires completion of articleship and clearing the Intermediate exams.

**Choosing Between Old and New Scheme**:
- If you have already started under the old scheme, you might continue with it until completion.
- The new scheme offers a more structured and integrated pathway from Foundation to Final, often preferred for its updated curriculum and structure.

**Transitioning**:
- ICAI allows candidates under the old scheme to transition to the new scheme if desired, though specific rules and guidelines apply depending on your current stage of study or articleship.

If you're confused about which scheme you fall under or how to proceed, it's advisable to consult with ICAI or a knowledgeable mentor who can guide you based on your specific circumstances and goals.
