18 July 2024 When a Chartered Accountant (CA) holds a Certificate of Practice (COP) and is appointed as an auditor by a company, the auditor's report can be signed in the following manner:

1. **Individual Name of the CA**: If the CA is appointed as an auditor in his personal capacity (i.e., not representing a firm), the auditor's report should be signed with the individual name of the CA. For example, "John Doe, Chartered Accountant" or "John Doe, CA".

2. **Firm Name**: If the CA is appointed as an auditor through a firm, and the firm's registration number is obtained and quoted in the appointment letter from the company, the auditor's report can be signed using the firm's name. For example, "XYZ & Co., Chartered Accountants".

### Important Considerations:
- **Appointment Letter**: The auditor's appointment letter from the company should specify whether the CA is appointed as an individual or on behalf of a firm.

- **COP**: The CA must have a valid Certificate of Practice (COP) issued by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) to sign audit reports.

- **Firm Registration**: If the CA intends to sign using the firm's name, the firm must be registered with ICAI and hold a valid firm registration number.

### Conclusion:
The manner in which the auditor's report is signed (either with the individual name or the firm's name) depends on the appointment terms specified by the company and the registration status of the CA (individual COP or firm registration). It's crucial to adhere to the specific requirements outlined in the appointment letter to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and professional ethics.

If there is any ambiguity or specific requirements in the appointment letter, it is advisable to consult with the company's management, legal advisors, or the CA's professional body (ICAI) for guidance to ensure proper compliance.
