23 July 2016 Hello sir I had appeared in May 16 final exams and got my results and cleared 2nd group but in 1 St group got 23 marks in Audit and got exemption in other 3 subjects in 1 st group. How many subjects now I need to give?? Audit only? Or more? Is there any limit in no of subjects that we can claim exempt? In exemption rules of ICAI ther is no such limit but some confusions are still there. Please help and provide reference to the rules.. Thank you sir.

18 July 2024 Congratulations on clearing the 2nd group of CA Final exams! Based on your results, here’s how the exemption rules apply to your situation:

1. **Exemption Rule**: According to ICAI rules, if you score 60 or more marks in a subject but fail to clear the group, you are eligible for exemption in that subject for subsequent attempts until the validity period of the exemption expires.

2. **Exemption Limit**: There is no specific limit on the number of subjects in which you can claim exemption. As long as you meet the criteria (scoring 60 or more marks and failing to clear the group), you can claim exemption in each qualifying subject.

3. **Your Situation**:
- You scored 23 marks in Audit, which is below the exemption threshold (60 marks). Therefore, you do not qualify for exemption in Audit.
- You got exemptions in the other 3 subjects in the 1st group because you scored 60 or more marks in those subjects.

4. **Subjects to Give in Next Attempt**: Since you did not get an exemption in Audit (scoring below 60 marks), you will need to reappear for Audit in your next attempt. Additionally, you will need to clear any other subjects in which you did not receive an exemption.

5. **Reference to Rules**:
- The exemption rules are detailed in ICAI’s official guidelines and announcements. The rules are generally communicated through the official announcements on the ICAI website and through the examination notifications.
- For specific reference, you can check the ICAI Examination Regulations and relevant announcements for your attempt cycle (May 2016 in your case).

6. **Validity Period**: Exemptions are valid for a certain number of attempts, typically three, from the attempt in which you first became eligible for exemption. You should check the validity period mentioned in your exemption notification.

To summarize, you need to give Audit again in your next attempt along with any other subjects in which you did not receive an exemption. There is no limit on the number of subjects in which you can claim exemption as long as you meet the criteria for each subject individually. For the exact details and rules applicable to your attempt, refer to the ICAI Examination Regulations and announcements.
