08 October 2010 Dear All,
I am on mid of career & on age of 38 working as a Chief accountant in Thailand having 18 years acconting and finance background with the Mcom Qualification.
Still I feel I am not fully equiped with knowledge and techniques in todays accounting era. Due
Ealier I started my career in SEPZ which doesnt given me any taxation knowledge.
Also even though I was on middle management level either due to company structure or any irrelevant reason like finalisaion in HO/corporate office etc I couldn't gain handsom knowledge on finalizaion and taxation. Also I work more than 10 years in hotel and service industries. Now last 5 years I am working in abroad which is totally different from home country rules and regulation of taxatin and other accounting policies. also due to meeting financial targets unable to upgrade from any source like FInance management / MBA etc.
If at this stage after I am reaching India (nearly in next 6 mth) is it possible to go for CA at this age? or should I save time by doing CPA or GAAP etc? to update and qualified myself with present market.

Your valuable guidence will help me to avoid further confusions and complexity in selecting steam and wasting time.

09 October 2010 Hi Raj,

You have an impressive career record despite having no professional qualification.

You still can do CA, but I dont think it is wise at this age since it involves article ship, etc. You can rather consider doing ACCA whilst you work elsewhere. It may be advisable for you to continue working overseas, if you think that will be beneficial in the long term. Returning to India will obviously involve starting at a low salary job (due to not in touch and not having professional qualification, etc)

Hotel Industry prefers people with experience. They give more weight to experience than to qualification. So that may be something that you would like to explore first.

Good Luck!

09 October 2010 acca or CMA give u edge over others & also exemptions

I may prefer ACCA & distance MBA or PGDBA in marketing & finance or HR
