Can I obtain the consent of ICAI for termination before completing group 2 of articleship

12 July 2024 To terminate your articleship before completing the second group of intermediate and transition into industrial training for the last year, here’s what you need to consider regarding the documents and process for obtaining ICAI consent:

### Documents and Proofs Required for Termination of Articleship:

1. **Application for Termination**: You will need to submit an application to the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) for the termination of your articleship. This application typically includes:
- A formal letter addressed to ICAI requesting termination of articleship.
- Details of your current articleship position, including the name of the Principal and firm.
- Reasons for seeking termination (in your case, transitioning to industrial training and completing the second group of intermediate).

2. **Consent of Principal**: Obtain a consent letter from your Principal stating their agreement to terminate your articleship. This letter should outline the reasons for termination and confirm the period you have already served.

3. **Supporting Documentation**: Include any additional documents that support your request, such as:
- Copies of your articleship agreement.
- Proof of completion of first group of intermediate (if applicable).
- Any relevant correspondence or communication with ICAI or your Principal regarding the termination.

4. **No Objection Certificate (NOC)**: Depending on your agreement with the Principal, you may need to obtain an NOC from them to proceed with termination.

### Timing of Termination Before Completing Group 2:

- Yes, you can apply for the consent of ICAI to terminate your articleship before completing the second group of intermediate exams. This is common if you plan to transition to industrial training or have other valid reasons for terminating early.

- Ensure that your application clearly states your intention to complete the second group of intermediate exams and transition into industrial training afterward.

### Process and Next Steps:

- **Submission**: Submit your application, along with all required documents, to ICAI through the prescribed channel or portal. Ensure all information is accurate and complete to avoid delays.

- **Follow-Up**: Follow up with ICAI or your regional office regarding the status of your application. They may require additional information or clarification before processing your request.

- **Industrial Training**: Once you receive consent for termination and fulfill any other requirements, you can proceed with industrial training as planned for the remaining period of your articleship.

### Conclusion:

Terminating articleship before completing the second group of intermediate exams is possible with the consent of ICAI and your Principal. Ensure you gather all necessary documents and provide a clear rationale for your request in your application. Contact ICAI directly or consult their guidelines for any specific requirements or procedures applicable to your situation.
