Yes. it is very much required. Be in touch with a good company sevretary and he/she will do it for you. ( Many a chartered accountants are not doing this and even ROC is not paying much attention for this non compliance.)

After the appointment of Auditor, the Company is required to inform the Auditor within 7 days of the Appointment.
The auditor shall within 30 days of the receipt of the Company's intimation of his appointment, inform the Registrar in writing that he has accepted or refused to accept hte appointment so made.
For this the auditor is required to file form 23B.
