what is the criteria for applying TAN No. as per income tax act.

1. IS tax liability is taken into consideration.

09 May 2012 Any one who is liable to deduct TDS or TCS have to apply for TAN.

09 May 2012 If you are Individual / HUF, then in case your books of accounts get audited, then you apply for TAN. It is not mandatory but the need may arise anytime.

In all other cases, its better to have a TAN obtained.
