If you have generated an e-invoice and IRN (Invoice Reference Number) but need to cancel it before filing your GSTR-1 return, you can follow these steps to cancel the e-invoice:
### Steps to Cancel E-Invoice and IRN:
1. **Access the GST Portal**: - Log in to the GST portal using your credentials (GSTIN and password).
2. **Navigate to E-Invoice Section**: - Go to the 'E-Invoice' section on the GST portal. This section is typically found under the 'Returns' menu.
3. **Initiate Cancellation**: - Look for the option to cancel the e-invoice. The specific steps may vary slightly depending on the GST portal's interface and updates. Generally, you will find an option to cancel e-invoice under the 'E-Invoice' menu.
4. **Enter IRN Details**: - Enter the IRN (Invoice Reference Number) of the e-invoice that you want to cancel. You will need to provide details such as the IRN, invoice number, and other relevant information as required.
5. **Reason for Cancellation**: - Provide a reason for cancelling the e-invoice. The GST portal may prompt you to select from predefined reasons or allow you to enter a specific reason for cancellation.
6. **Submit Cancellation Request**: - After entering all necessary details and verifying them, submit the cancellation request on the GST portal.
7. **Confirmation and Acknowledgment**: - Once the cancellation request is submitted successfully, you should receive an acknowledgment or confirmation on the GST portal. Keep a record of this acknowledgment for your reference.
### Important Points to Note:
- **Time Limit**: Ensure that you initiate the cancellation before filing your GSTR-1 return. Once the e-invoice is reported in GSTR-1, cancellation might become more complex and could require further steps.
- **Repercussions**: Understand the implications of cancelling an e-invoice, such as any impact on your financial records or compliance requirements.
- **Documentation**: Maintain proper records of the cancellation request and acknowledgment for audit and compliance purposes.
If you encounter any difficulties or if the option to cancel e-invoice is not available on the GST portal, consider reaching out to GST helpdesk or consulting with a tax professional for assistance tailored to your specific situation.
