When shall a person be regarded as a Senior Citizen?

17 February 2011 Sir,

If an individual attains 65 years during the Assst. Year before the due date of filing the return of income, can he be considered as Senior Citized for that particular AY??

Eg. DOB is 01-04-1965
He wl be completing 65 years on 01-04-2010. Can he be taxed as Senior citizen for AY 2010-11??

17 February 2011 No, the assessee should complete the age the of 65 years in the PY and not in AY.

You may avail the benefit of senior citizen in the next year i.e in AY 2011-12.
