TDS on rent paid

This query is : Resolved

05 February 2010 Hi,

I pay rent of Rs. 10,500/month by cash. Total yearly rent is Rs. 126000. I am salaried individual and claim HRA exemption on the paid rent. Since rent is more than 120000, shall I deduct TDS under section 194-I or any other section?

I have read many posts on this topic , but not able to understand it correctly. Somewhere it is mentioned that individual needs to deduct TDS only if books are audited under section 44AB. My income is less than 10Lacks/year.

Please suggest.

Thanks

05 February 2010 No, the section 194-I is not applicable to you being you are a salaried person.Need more clarification, call me at 09868826026.

05 February 2010 You no need to deduct the TDS
