Tds forrm 16-a

This query is : Resolved

29 June 2013 I have received 4 quarterly TDS certificate Form 16A from the bank on interest that I received from them. The Q1 and Q2 were taken from NSDL with a 6 alpha character certificate number and when checking at NSDL they matched. However, the Q3 and Q4 are given from TRACES and we cannot verify as the utility at NSDL accepts only 6 characters and the traces certificate has 7 characters certificate number.

As the system seems to be changed to Traces, do we have to ask deductor to re issue the Q1 and Q2 certificates from TRACES as they were issued from TIN at that time? Will the system accept the 6 digit certificate number if bank does not reissue from TRACES.

29 June 2013 In ITR you can provide the total TDS amount and Total of Income Credited, so I think, TDS certificate No will not create any problem.
.

30 June 2013 It is not a mandatory field for filling tds sheet of ITR..

So you don't need to worry on tds certificate number..

And you may try 7 digit certificate no. also i dont think ITR will object..if objects to do so..just leave that coloumn in blank as it is not a mandatory field to be filled..

Please note which are in red ink are mandatory to fill ITR

Thanks & regards

01 July 2013 What I want to be sure about is whether the certificate issued upto October 2012 via NSDL is valid or not. After that they started traces and in february 19 2012 they notified a traces format for Form 16 and Form 16A. Therefore I was wondering if I have to get the NSDL formats replaced with TRACES.

01 July 2013 Yes..they are valid..no need to take TDS certificate again

just verify in 26AS also whether you have got credit for total amount deducted..and then file return
