10 August 2010 I am penioner from a large MNC in Mumbai and the company has been reimbursing domiciliary medical expenses for all pensioners subject to production of bills. If the reimbursement exceeds Rs 15000 per annum, the company deducts tax on the excess amount paid ( above 15000)as reimbursement. I am told that I am still liable to pay tax on the 15000 as well. Can someone please clarify what is the correct position?

10 August 2010 Rs. 15,000 exemption is available for pensioners also, if payment is made against actual bills.

As such, you are not liable to pay tax on medical reimbursement received upto Rs. 15,000.
