Taxability of Mediclaim claim received by employee

14 February 2011 Dear All,

Please advise the taxability:
Company is paying towards group mediclaim insurance of employee his spouse and children. Now if employee claims mediclaim from insurance co. ,whether the claim received by the employee is taxable in his hand. If yes, under which head?. how employer can keep track since some employees are using cashless facilities.

14 February 2011 The Company pays only Mediclaim premium of employee, spouse and their children not their medical bill when they hospitalised.
The hospital expenses will be borne by the employee himself and when the employee receive the amount from mediclaim COmpany. The account will square up. There is no question of receiving amount from Insurance Company higher than actual expenses incurred
