There is a drastic change in Service Tax in India from 1.7.2012. Considering the negative list concept & reverse charge liability in mind I just want to know that whether the existing service tax registration holders needs to surrender the registration certificate & apply for one category "All Taxable Services"? If not how the returns will be filed for more than one number of Services?

It is just like excise RC. Earlier the department was issuing the Excise RC,mentioning the specific commodity with its tariff code. Afterwards, they have issued RC just "manufacturing of excisable commodities" that's all. Such RC holder can manufacture any product with that single registration.
In Service tax also the same procedure is followed after 01.07.2012. All the new assessees will be having service tax RC "Services other than in the negative list". so, there is no need to surrender. The same RC holds good now also.
Secondly the department is planning to bring in new Return in that all category will be shown in one column and that is why they have introduced single code for all category of services. This is the step towards introduction of GST.
