Sec- 194 -4 " TDS on interest other than Interet on Security" states that tax to be deducted while paying interest to resident. In such a case any interest (other than interst on security ) payable to NOn- resident is exempt from the ambit of TDS ?

I understand interest paid to non-residents will come under section 195 'Payments to Non-residents" where whitholding tax will apply w.r.t relevant DTAA provisions. If I am wrong I can be corrected.

I AGREE WITH SRI RAMANA. SEC 195 CLAUSE i applies for tds on int.paid to non res. TDS deductible @ the rates specified therein or ADT RATES whichever is lower. R.V.RAO
