i had purchased units of debt oriented mutual fund on 06/07/2012 and the same was sold on 06/07/2015. i wanted to know whether it will be considered as short term capital transaction or long term capital transaction and relevant rate of taxation.

It will be considered Long Terms. Since the language of the act is held for 3 years or less.In you case you will finish 3 years on 05.07.2015
