Is Provident fund required to be deducted from the remuneration of directors..?

Yes it is as per the requirement of EPF act 1956, however independent directors are not on salaried, they are getting paid for their professional services , so pf is not required to be deducted on that however TDS u/s 194J should be deducted. Whole time director are salried employess and on their salary PF is required to be deducted.
