08 December 2013 Respected Memebers,
Can a person having two legal wives (like in other religion), claim deductions u/s-80C for payment of tuition fees of their respective children?
Eg: Mr A married to Mrs.B & Mrs.C. Mr A & Mrs.B have four children & Mr.A & Mrs.C have two children.Mr.A paid tuiton fees Rs.80,000/- & Rs.60,000/- for 2 children from fist & 1 child from second wives respectively, Mrs.B paid Rs.50,000/- for the rest two of her children and Mrs.C paid Rs.1.2 lakhs for her one child?
In this case total deduction allowed as per sec-80C will be :
(i) Mr.A Rs.80,000 + Rs.20,000
(ii) Mrs.B = Rs.50,000 &
(iii) Mrs.C = Rs.1 lakh.

Please correct me if i am wrong.

08 December 2013 If they are filing separate return, than answer given by you is correct, individually maximum a person can claim is Rs 100,000/- under Sec 80C
