pan

This query is : Resolved

12 August 2009 what denotes each alpha in pan no?
i know abt only two, status and surname. what means of remenaing 4 alpha in pan no?

12 August 2009 second last alphabate will denote the status of the pan holder.

Eg: if the pan is AAACS0000A
that means the name of the assessee will start from "S" & it is a company.

If the pan is AAAFS0000A
that means the name of the assessee will start from "S" & it is a firm.

If the pan is AAAHS0000A
that means the name of the assessee will start from "S" & it is a HUF.

Note first three alphabates are just to make the serial nos.
If the pan is AAATS0000A
that means the name of the assessee will start from "S" & it is a Trust.

If the pan is AAAAS0000A
that means the name of the assessee will start from "S" & it is a individual.
