22 July 2010 If a person left India to work abroad in November does he need to pay tax on his salary earned abroad?

Thanks

22 July 2010 the person's salary would be taxable in india as per section 5 because he would be resident in india and his global income would be taxable

however there are DTAA agreements which provide for exemption of tax in india

so pl provide details as to which country he has gone

22 July 2010 Thanks very much for the clarification. He was and NRI and worked in India for 17 months. But he has spent only less than about 650 days in India during last 7 years. Does this mean that he is a RNOR? If yes, should he pay tax on his salary earned abroad during 2009-2010? If I show my entry-exit stamps in passport will that be acceptable to IT to claim RNOR status?

Appreciate your expert view very much
