Medical Reimbursement

This query is : Resolved

21 April 2009 Respected Seniors,

There is a confusion among employees regarding medical reimbursement. Some of our employees getting fixed amount per month as medical reimbursement & wants exemption u/s 17(2).

But as they are getting fixed amount per month it will be medical allowance instead of medical reimbursement. There appointment letter also shows fixed amount as medical reimbursement per month.

Please clarify it.

Thanks

21 April 2009 Medical reimbursement is when you incurr the medical expense and later it is paid back to us.medical allowance is in the nature of income unless you have any diseases, there may be excemption

21 April 2009 Medical expenses if reimburese by company against submitting medical bills, it will cover under u/s 17(2) and exempt in the hands of epmloyee upto Rs.15000/- after that it will taxable. This is immetrial that it is shown in appointment letter as reimb. koz that is limit specified by company for differant gread of employees. but if it is shown as alowance and no bills required for paying that. it will fully taxable in the hands of employees.

21 April 2009 Completely agree with both the Experts vivek.m and Brij Bhushan Sangal
