Medical Insurance Premium U/s 80D

This query is : Resolved

13 May 2010 As per the company's policy, employees get reimbursement for the medical premium they paid through the medical reimbursement.

The employees also claim the same premium for 80D deduction.

whether this will be allowed ?

13 May 2010 ya its allowed

13 May 2010 I am not clear with the Query....

However what my knowledge says is that the Medical reimbursement you claim from the Company upto the maximum of Rs.15,000 p.m against the submission of the bills CANNOT be claimed as deduction u/d 80D.

For deduction u/s 80D, only the premium paid for mediclaim policy is allowed.

Experts views are solicited.........

13 May 2010 ya, premium is paid by the employee by cheque but later on he gets the reimbursement from the employer under medical reimbursement scheme which is below Rs.15,000/- so exempt from income tax. So whether he can claim medical premium paid U/s 80D ?

13 May 2010 Yes. Since it is the premium paid on mediclim policy, so it can be claimed u/s 80D.
