Medical Allowance

We have salary structure which consists medical allowance which is included in CTC

If any employee provides medical bills for himself or his dependents, can that be claimed as an exepmption upto Rs.15000/- u/s 80D

18 March 2011 Medical allowance forming part of the salary and included in the breakup of gross salary is fully taxable.
Whereas reimbursement of medical expenses up to Rs.15,000/- per annum is exempted from income tax vide proviso(v) of section 17(2)of the Income tax Act,1961.

18 March 2011 You can not claim it U/s 80D. You can get exemption of medical reimbursement upto 15000/- u/s 17(2).
