Hi,My friend is getting LTA every year.He has not claimed any exemption in block 2006-2009. However,he had gone outstation with his family Feb 2010
Query: Can he take exemption in FY 09-10 assuming that one journey was carried forward pertaining to block 2006-09 ?
Can he claim exemption although the same has not been considered in Form 16 ?
Are e-tickets considered as sufficient proof ?
Please let me know whether I can claim exemption for filing return for AY 10-11. Regards,

Yes. your frined is eligible for claiming LTA which is not claimed during last block (2 journeys)
Becasue any unclaimed LTA journey out of 2 during the block can be carry forward to next block first calendar year subject to one journey such is current block 2010, so the same not to be counted in the 2 exempted journey during the current block
Now days E-tickets is generally used so can be accepted. The act not mentioned E-ticket or regular ticket

Thanks.But still the confusion remains in my mind of whether I can take exemption for AY 10-11 while filing IT return? or is it claimable in AY 11-12

Hi, In case of carry forward exemption 0f 2006-09,if I have travelled in Feb'10 and have not claimed the exemption in FY 09-10 (i.e AY 10-11),can i claim in next FY i.e 2010-2011?
Your traveling in 2006-09 block but actually as per law 1 LTA canbe carry forward to next block it is valid as per law and availed on Feb-10 fallng under financial year 2009-10 can be avalied only 2009-10 FY only actual expenses incurred cannot be carry forward to next FY. so you case you should claim only 2009-10 not 2010-11
