06 February 2015 what is the difference between simple imprisonment and rigorous imprisonment??

09 February 2015 Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) by interpretation means hard labour. Hard labour is not defined in the Indian Penal Code. RI as a form of punishment started off in the British era, when it meant breaking rocks and making roads.

simple imprisonment is 'doing no work' while rigorous imprisonment is 'doing some work'
