Hra exemption for tax relief

24 December 2013 Hi there I am an assistant professor(doctor) at a government institute in delhi.My institute in calculating the HRA exemption from my salary including NPA with DA in the formula for HRA exemption that is applicable- they r using-Rent paid -10 % of (basic+DA) I am attaching my salary slip along with this query. Is it right that DA is added to the basic for calculating the HRA exemption from taxable salary ? please answer my question i will be very grateful for the same Regards Dr.Anshuman 9540946870

my institute is also adding NPA to the DA and basic for HRA exemption is it justified I am working in a government insitute as a doctor

25 December 2013 Please tell what is NPA.

26 December 2013 non practising allowance given to doctors in government set up as they are not indulging in private pratice

07 January 2014 Dear Anshuman,

answered this on your query in the Forum....it has to be included in the computation..but given that your rent paid - 10% of salary+DA is already negative, you wont be able avail any tax deduction from HRA.
