I have always read in various articles and forums on.CCI that a student should develop indepth knowledge of the subject and understand the subject to the core..
But should we depend only on institute's module and reference books or anything beyond that..

You should definitely read CA Institute Study Materials but inorder to have indepth knowledge please go through books that are readily available in the market. Each subject has its own renowned authors, so go for it.
