22 February 2011 Income from doing puja will come under which head of income and which number return need to be filled for filing incometax returns.

pujari's income will not come under income from profession?

22 February 2011 It will be taxable under the head income from other sources.
Use ITR 2 for filing IT Return

22 February 2011 it can be considered as casual income under OTHER SOURCES & i think ITR-2 would be applicable then.

seek others' opinions too

22 February 2011 AGREE WITH EXPERTS...ITR-2 YOU CAN FILL...

22 February 2011 Ibn my opinion, it should be income from profession.

22 February 2011 Income from doing puja - ACCORDING TO ME FOR THE PUJARI IT IS NOT A PROFESSION INCOME BECOUSE POOJA IS NOT PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITY BUT IT IS A JUST SPIRITUAL THINK. FOR THAT REASON IT IS NOT COVER IN PROFESSION.

POOJA INCOME SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN "OTHER SOURSES"

22 February 2011 What ever work a pujari do will involve some specialized skills.why it won't come under income from profession.

22 February 2011 Section 2(36) of the IT Act,1961 says, "profession" includes vocation. So income of pujari is income from profession.

22 February 2011 pooja is not business activity for that reason it not to be included in business and profession income.

23 February 2011 if pujas is the main occupation of the assessee i.e. primary income source,
then as per the express words of law as stated above u/s 2(36), it can be reported under PGBP

however dakshiNa given to pujaris is a kind of donation and that comes under ambit of IOS.

so now i think only ethical considerations matter.. and ultimately.. whether PGBP or IOS, its gonna be returned as taxable income.
