For setting up a fruit processing unit in Himachal Pradesh and applying for an FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) license, you generally need to determine whether to apply for a State License or a Central License based on your production capacity and turnover. Here's a basic guideline:
1. **State License**: You should apply for a State License if your annual turnover is less than ₹20 crore and your production capacity meets the criteria set by the state government. Each state may have specific criteria, so you should check with the Himachal Pradesh FSSAI or the state's food safety department for exact details.
2. **Central License**: You need to apply for a Central License if your annual turnover exceeds ₹20 crore. Additionally, specific categories of food businesses, regardless of turnover, also require a Central License. These categories include: - Dairy units processing more than 50,000 liters of liquid milk per day or 2500 MT of milk solids per annum. - Vegetable oil manufacturing units and units producing more than 2 MT per day. - Slaughtering units. - Meat processing units. - Food processing units including re-packaging units with more than 2 MT per day. - All food businesses that are importing food items.
Since you're setting up a fruit processing unit, the category of Central License generally depends on the daily production capacity and specific criteria for fruit processing units.
### Steps to Determine the License Type: - **Check Production Capacity**: Determine your unit's production capacity per day or per annum. - **Calculate Turnover**: Estimate your projected annual turnover. - **Consult FSSAI Guidelines**: Review the specific guidelines and categorizations provided by FSSAI and Himachal Pradesh authorities.
### How to Apply: - **Documentation**: Prepare all required documents including Form-B (completed and signed), layout plan of the processing unit, NOCs from local authorities, etc. - **Application Submission**: Submit your application along with the required fee to the FSSAI office either online or physically, depending on the process they specify.
For precise guidance tailored to your specific production capacity and turnover, it's advisable to directly contact the local FSSAI office in Himachal Pradesh or visit their official website for detailed information and application procedures.
