If you have forgotten your e-filing password for income tax purposes in India, you can reset it using the following steps:
1. **Visit the Income Tax e-Filing Website**: Go to the official Income Tax e-Filing website of the Government of India. The URL is https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in.
2. **Click on 'Forgot Password'**: On the login page, there is an option 'Forgot Password?' Click on that link.
3. **Choose Password Reset Options**: You will be presented with different options to reset your password: - **Using Aadhaar OTP**: If your mobile number is linked to Aadhaar and Aadhaar is linked to your PAN, you can choose to reset using Aadhaar OTP. - **Using Net Banking**: If your bank account is linked with your PAN, you can reset using net banking. - **Using DSC**: If you have a Digital Signature Certificate, you can reset using DSC.
4. **Follow the Steps**: Depending on the option you choose, follow the steps as prompted by the e-filing portal. For example, if you choose Aadhaar OTP, you will receive an OTP on your Aadhaar-linked mobile number which you need to enter to reset your password.
5. **Set a New Password**: After successfully validating your identity through the chosen option, you will be allowed to set a new password for your e-filing account.
6. **Login with New Password**: Once the password is reset, use the new password to login to your e-filing account.
If you do not have access to any of the reset options provided (Aadhaar OTP, Net Banking, DSC), you may need to go through the process of 'Forgot Password' and choose the option to 'Answer Secret Question' or 'Upload Digital Signature Certificate (DSC)' if these options are available to you.
