09 November 2011 Dear Sunil, fringe benefit tax is not paid but was paid by employer i.e. it had been abolished with effect from assessment year 09-10. In answer why it was levied just to evade the co. and non co. from increasing their expenditure and to reduce their taxable income and finally to reduce their tax liability.
