In case of EGM can chairman or the shareholders drop any agenda item without putting it for the vote, if they are not in a position to take any decision due to the lake of information or some other reasons.
I dont think that chairman has power to do so. Since, the Notice has already been sent, take up the item in meeting, n request the shareholders to drop that item citing appropriate reasons. The same should be noted in minutes as well to avoid audit queries.

In the EGM can shareholders drop any agenda item without taking any decision on it, I mean to say without passing or rejecting the motion.

According to me also CM has no power to drop any agenda item. However has the power to do so by not responding to the resolution through their voting power.
However if main voting power is in the hands of Management and meeting is convened properly then shareholders also can not drop the agenda item.
