Please advice if it is cmpulsary to file CST return even if there is nil tax to be paid and MVAT form already have column's wherein CST details are mentioned/filled. Please advice as maharashtra govt has sent demand ntice for Rs5000/- for non filing

As per sub section 8 and Recent judgement, Late filing of return will attract penalty of non appealable penalty of Rs. 5000.00 (both under MVAT & CST Acts).
So file your CST return even if there is no transaction or Nil liability and you have to pay penalty or You can request to Commissioner to reduce the penalty with appropriate reason for filing delay.

Dear Member, You have to file your return on timely basis, whether there is transaction or nil return. you write letter to Commissoner of department, specifying strong reason for non compliance, appolise for the same and also give future assurance for compliance, i am sure he will surely waive your penalty.
