05 December 2008 What is the different between duty & taxes?????

Why it is called excise duty, custom duty why not excise tax or custom tax???????

06 December 2008 Duty as defined in Oxford dictionary is "Govt. Tax on Imports & Exports" & Tax is defined as "Charge against a citizen's person or property or activity for the support of government".
