whenever i try to download something from this site, the download process doesnt start on its own. Should it be this way only or else there is some problem.

You have to check Internet Security Settings, Popup Window Settings. If both are enabled then you will face the problem in downloding the file from any website.
First you to change as allow popup windows for this site, then you can download the files from this website.
