Can I file ITR even if My Income is not taxable?

17 July 2009 I have Form 16 for last year which does not have any deduction as my Income did not cross the limit. Can I file ITR? Also, what will be the benefits of filing ITR then?

17 July 2009 yes, you can file ITR, benefit is that your file will be updated and weighty in terms of money

17 July 2009 I agree with Manmohan, but the practical difficulty is that now Income tax office people are not accepting NIL returns. They try to avoid to take these returns. Better is to file the ITR online. Legally they can't do so, but no benefit in fighting with them.

17 July 2009 Agree with Manmohan and practical difficulty and solution mentioned by Tarun Ji.

17 July 2009 Also, I have 1 Form 16 of the current company & no proof of the last one, so should I file details of this company only which has issued me Form 16 who had paid me only Rs.53,500 only
