Firt of all; take guide from a professor or practising CA and know about the importance of a subject.
I short; if you are reading any law; then first see the Penalty Provisions of that Act. It will give you idea about the importance of certain chapters. In practical life also; it will work to a great extent. This way you will know the importance of the subject i.e. if a particular payment/form is not filled in time the consequences may turn into lacs of penalties.
If there is a group of persons; who emphasis on self study then it becomes easy to understand the subject.
Mr. Heera's advice can be considered like a "heera." He has written : .
"Misconception and time consumption are only problems in self study".
When topic is altogether new and you have no idea about it; then it will be difficult to absorb the contents of the topic.
That is why I suggest to take guide from professors etc at very initial level. If you get one hour discussion with them about the whole subject; it will be of great help !
You can join Seminars also and sent your querries to caclubindia type sites.
