How to determine whether there is permanent fall in case of long term investment?

I guess it is for mutual fund investment posted earlier!!
If it is trading or liquid investment, it is carried at cost or NRV, which ever is lower. Thus if market value of MF investment is less than cost, it is not a permanent dimunition, but an accounting requirement under AS 13.
