Amendment in shipping bill - GST Filing

This query is : Resolved

18 May 2023 In an Export business, Export bill is on the month end (April) and the shipping bill is on the next month (May). In that case, there is an amendment in the shipping bill. Whether this export bill has to be filed in the month of April or May? Please guide.

06 July 2024 In the scenario you've described, where the Export bill (Invoice) is dated at the end of April and the Shipping Bill is generated in May with subsequent amendments, here's how the filing should typically be handled:

1. **Export Bill (Invoice Date):** Since the Export bill (Invoice) is dated at the end of April, it should be reported for export purposes in the **month of April**. This is because the invoice date determines the month in which the export transaction is recognized for accounting and reporting purposes.

2. **Shipping Bill Date:** The Shipping Bill, which is generated in May, would reflect the actual shipment date and details. If there are amendments to the Shipping Bill later, these would typically be made within a reasonable period after the initial shipping and would be reflected accordingly.

3. **Amendments:** If there are amendments to the Shipping Bill (typically due to changes in quantity, value, or other details), these amendments should be filed promptly after the original Shipping Bill is generated. Amendments are necessary to ensure accuracy in customs declarations and compliance with export regulations.

### Key Points to Consider:

- **Invoice Date Control:** The invoice date governs the timing of when the export transaction is recorded for tax and regulatory purposes.

- **Shipping Bill Date:** Reflects the actual shipping details and is generated after the invoice date, typically in the following month.

- **Amendments:** Amendments to the Shipping Bill should be filed promptly to avoid delays or discrepancies in export documentation.

### Conclusion:

In summary, for your export business scenario, where the Export bill (Invoice) is dated at the end of April and the Shipping Bill is generated in May with amendments, the Export bill should be reported in the month of April. The Shipping Bill, along with any subsequent amendments, should be processed and filed promptly in accordance with customs and export regulations to ensure accurate documentation of the export transaction.
