Using tally erp for excise works

This query is : Resolved

24 March 2012 Dear Experts & Friends..,,,
I need a urgent solution..

We are manufacturers and use Tally ERP for our Accouting Solutions but at the same time we use manual registers and invoicing for Central Excise work.

Now we have decided to computerize the Excise Invoices and statutory register under Excise Dept from coming 1st Apr using tally.

We want to know that, is Tally ERP is authorized under Central Excise and can we legally issue Invoices and maintain the statutory registers by using Tally ERP or not and stop doing it manually.

Is there any notification or anything like that has been issued by the Dept. to tally.

Please help me as soon as possible.
Thanks in Advance.

27 March 2012 Hi Sharma

As per your query above. There is no statutory procedure that records have to be maintained in particular manner etc. It says private records is sufficient ie records of inputs purchased, consumed, closing stock needed to be maintained on daily basis and submitted to range officer/superintendent of central excise for scrutiny when required.

So, please go ahead and maintain Books of account in Tally ERP. It is acceptable.

27 March 2012 Generating Excise Invoice and maintaining registers are possible technically in tally. But is it also legally to do so in the eye of the excise dept.

Please reply to my below questions considering us as Excise Manufacturer.
1. Is it possible to delete / modify excise invoice after print out ?
2. Is it possible for the buyer to take cenvat credit on the Invoice issued by us using Tally?
3. Can we submit the computer generates reports (RG Part I & II ) in the excise dept. as and when required or at the time of their audit. Will it be acceptable by them?
4. We know software like Udyog, SAP etc. which are used for excise work and are also accepted by the dept., Is tally also acceptable by them.

Please note that no other Act (i.e. VAT, CST, Income Tax) has these guidelines except Excise & Customs.
1. Restrict to Delete or Modify once print out is taken.
2. Mandatory to put IN / Out timings on Invoice Issued.
3. Maintaining of records as prescribed by dept.

Keeping in view the above, I hope you now understand what we want and will be able to advice and reply us accordingly.

27 March 2012 Hi

Answers to the above queries to the best of my knowledge.

Query no 1: No. If invoice is cancelled after goods are dispatched u have to intimate to the excise dept before the immediate next day.

Query no 2: YES

Query no 3: when the dept requires the we have to submit immediately. So my advice is to keep it a regular practice of monthly/Bimonthly for submitting records.

But be careful with making payment of excise duty and filing of excise returns in due time.

Query no 4: Tally is also acceptable.

27 March 2012 Thank You Sir,
Your points will definitely help me but my I am still confused as because one of my friend said that, Tally is not authorized ...

Anyways, do you personally know any Manufacturing concerns using Tally for this purpose.

Actually the main problem is that, I am working in a small town where big steel & power industries are there and the Tax authorities here (all Sales tax, excise, etc) are so corrupted and hungry that every week I have to face them and they just try to make issue of foolish things and put us in trouble for fulfilling their illegal wishes.

This is why I am thinking on this points so much...

Thanks for your valuable time.

27 March 2012 In my town I enquired few professionals, they are saying that TAllY ERP can be used. But kindly wait for the opinion of other friends/experts.
